Ala's Story.

Life.....
It is one of those things that can be lost so fast one mintue your totally in control of everything around you, living, breathing, seeing. Everything possible is for the taking, what is it you dream of most? Can you taste it? Or is it so far away that your fingers just cant quite make it? Or maybe, you watch, wishing, hoping, stewing on it until one day you explode.

So you run to no where in particular, you have been running so long that your starting to feel the strain. As you start to slow you look around taking in the scenery before you, the sun has gone down and all you see around you is empty streets. Your heart starts to race and your eyes widen, all you hear is the drip coming from a building and it sets off goose pumps, then everything goes black.

What they do not realise is that in the dark of the shadows, behind that trash can and watching from the hight roof tops. There is always something watching.....waiting, for the perfect time to pounce. To feed on the innocent and compete in the fight for power. You may think your the only being out there, don't you human? The things you can discover if you just look hard enough. Those are the things that eat you alive, tear at your flesh and remove all traces like you never exsisted at all.

My life has not always been nice to me I was born different, maybe not on the outside – but on the inside everything is a abomination. Everything seemed normal as a child, I did normal things children did. That was until I hit the ripe age of 13 thats when the hunger began, I don't know how else to describle the feeling. I never got any warning, my whole body would freeze over, feeling like someone else was talking over. Then my body melted into it feeling the hungers extacy, what happens after that is best unsaid. Still to this day I struggle to look at myself in the mirror, to face the demon inside me. I know she will always be in there lurking it takes all my strength just to fight back.

The only thing keeping me on edge was my new found friend dog, who was in fact a wolf. She had been by my side ever since (which was only a week ago). . . .I decided to fight back against my demon. I tell myself that I'll be strong, but the truth is that wolf is my rock and without her, I would be straight back where I started. Sometimes I wonder where she come from, and what exactly she is. Normal animals bark and snarl at me, they have good sences like that. I guess that is why I feel this attachment to dog she makes me feel safe even if it is a false sense of security.

Being bogged up in side makes me restless, so on this fine day I decided that a walk was in order. It was nice to be alone since the dog was usually around. Listening to the wind pick up and blow my hair around my faces. It had an odd sence of serenity......Then BOOM it hit me, my heart skipped a few beats.

Once I opened my eyes I panicked, my hands were tied behind my back and my vision was blurry. I could not remember a thing, I felt my heart start to race again but knowing how stupid that was, I forced my self to breath slower. Once I had calmed myself I noticed a blonde little girl sitting on the chair reading. I looked around and it was definitely my house.
“WHAT THE ….” I struggled to get the handcuffs off but nothing was working.

The small girl just smiled. “I was wondering how long it was going to take you to wake, how are you feeling?”
I just spat at the crude little monster “WHERE IS DOG!” I screamed at her, and what the hell had she tied me up with, this shit is starting to burn.
Then it hit me, I looked to the small girl as she closed her book, she had the most unusual eyes. She smelt....like dog but that could be the bed, my nose was rather close to the blanket.
“It happened again didn't it.” I whispered and the small girl gave me a sad grin and nodded slowly.

“Do you remember anything Ala?” She asked softly.
My head was pounding and I just looked to her for a moment. What was I doing?
“Do you know what happened to me? I whispered.
She nodded slowly.
“What is your name?” I asked after a long silence.
“Lottie” she said softly.
As I sat up Lottie pulled over her chair to sit closer to me. Really, what was a child doing in my apartment  Some things were not adding up, I looked at her for a while, it seems as she was just waiting for me to ask questions. This was no normal girl.
“How did you find me?” I finally ask her, unsure if I actually wanted to know this answer.
“I have been here the whole time.” She smiled so innocently, it made my stomach queasy.
I looked under the bed as if I would a sign of someone living under there, but there was nothing. The silence was drilling into my skull, I couldn't think. “what do you mean here?” I demanded frowning at her. She just kept a placid face, like there was no worry in the world.

“Well, I have been by your side waiting, ever since you said that prayer.” She looked at me right in the eyes.
I always thought demons were burnt from the inside if they touched or said anything about god, or holy or anything.
“Bloody Hell, what on earth is going on?” I cursed.
Out of no where I heard cracks of bones and a light shimmering, as I looked up at Lottie, she was no longer a little girl.
“Remember me? It is lucky you got me doll, because a little birdy told me your going to have a visitor and your not going to like it.”

Questions......

We live in this world of questions and doubt. Did fate bring us here or is it just something we just stumble upon. Once I would of thought of this all as a stupid little game, who has the most power? It is the never ending game of blood lust, power and money. Every life you take gives over to the urge of blood lust, one more leads to ten more without a worry you have the lives of hundred of people. Power, that thing where you have control over people you treat as your pets, but what you have is never enough. So you go out for more power and more money. The gold that dazzles in you eye. Now? I am trying to find who I really am, keeping these awful things behind. Ridding myself of the influences of evil, of my already demonic nature.

What made me decide to stop? Death, my life was hanging on a thread. Some one had been feeding humans blood of the unicorn, because something in the blood has a reaction with the demon brain and numbs the whole body. So when I started to suck the energy from the human, my throat felt like it was on flames then my body froze and I fell to the ground. I could still see, hear and feel everything. I watched my life hang there, one of lilith's children were standing over me, ready to take my lifes blood. There for the first time I seen my wolf. Ripping Lilith's child to bits until she could reach her throat. My life was slipping faster, these things have time limits. She bit on some odd shaped pill thing and I was out like a light. I remember asking for something to save me – I guess my prayers were on my side.

I took peoples lives with a kiss, just taking their energy was never enough. At some point taking energy turned into the life thread. What is the life thread you say? Some people think it is the soul, like if you take it that part of the person becomes apart of you. Its a lie, your soul takes off to the afterlife, and nothing may touch it until it's there, then it is the will of the gods. Some turn to the angels, some become minions  The minority become Guardians, follow their loved ones and serve to protect them. Usually in the form of an animal, a dog or a cat sometimes it is unusual things like a snake or a frog. It turns out that is what Lottie is, my guardian. Usually for humans their guardians do not change shape, this is due to the fact that it would probably scare the shit out of them. Keeping the humans separate from the supernatural is a high priority, what would happen if they knew? Oh, boy.... lets not get into that. Lottie chose the right time for me to see her, she appeared as a child so I would not get up and kill her, which is fair enough I guess. When she went to watch me in the bar she chose to take her adult form. Something about the animal form made me love her for what she is, maybe it is because Demons are half animal or something? Who would really know.

Back to reality.....
I was not going him the choice to find where I lived or who I was with, I decided to deal with this head on. “Don't follow me.” I growled at Lottie, she didn't need to see this, nor did anyone. I left my apartment and walked into the forest, the mutual ground of the supernatural  I felt him coming before I seen him. Our bond connected us from our brain, we can feel our mates when we are close enough. I just stood there staring, thinking. My heart was pounding and it took just much to not break down. As soon as he was close he slipped his arms around my waist and stiffed my hair. I could not help but move my arms over his in protection. Like I was protecting the thing we both lost together.
“Glad you still smell the same my butterfly, I know your still belong to me. It has been a long time coming, I have been looking for you for 10 sweet years. My heart has never stopped yearning your sweet soft lips.” His soothing voice sung to me, like he was the only one who was ever there. My pounding heart and my heavy breathing gave away my true feelings. I should not be doing this, its the reason I left. At any moment my body was going to portray me and I was going to make him mine, and be lost in the hunger that we had those many years ago.....

“No, I am not her anymore Verne. I am never going to be. I am not your butterfly any more.” I said with a sigh. I must not and will not give it. I have to be strong, I will not give in.

“I remember you said "Don't leave me here alone" but you left me there to deal with the whole mess, how could you think I would just let you go?” He said it with such a smooth voice that everything come crashing all at once.

“let me go? You took away my whole world I can't look at your face with out replaying it all in my head over and over again. Yet you have the bloody guts to say I left you? Your pathetic Verne! Just......” My yelling turned into me being slammed against a tree.

Baboom.....I felt my heart thump as I stared at Verne in shock.....Baboom the feel of my heart pounding from my chest and I remember to breath again. He held my hands as he blocked me against the tree, a fierce look in his eyes.

SHIT..... I have done it now.

“He wasn't just your baby, did you ever think of that? I lost him too! Then you left me to deal with that wretched vampire. Every day is a mental bloody punishment, you leaving made it 10 times worse. And I know about your secret fucking guardian  you think she is going to save you from the hell that is about to be let loose? Human kind cant be saved from one bloody dog? HA.” He gazed into my eyes with the sly look, not as my mate, but as a predator about to take his hunt. “She will rip out her insides and lick them off her fingers without a flinch”

That was when I realised he was hers. Lady Lilith  she craved power so much, she made it in her control to take control of the supernatural world. She had the biggest army of us, they could produce more vampires then Demons, fae and the like. She could make her people from a bite, the rest of us had to create ours from pure blood and the chance of survival was rare. When I was promised to Verne, I was given to his family. Lady Lilith and Vernes family sacrificed my parents in the bonding ritual, I watched them tear out their throats and in turn Verne and I had to drink in the ceremony. Verne's family were high in the power chain, but they couldn't take Lady Lilith with her army. So they traded our first born child, demons are born with certain “gifts” that vampires aren't  All that happiness I had, ended the day our son was born and ruined any sanity I had left. I cried for days, I woke up some time after that. Could have been a week or a month, I can't recall. I ran, and I never returned.

“What do you want from me?” I barely whispered. My fear was consuming me, not knowing where this was going.
“I want you to come back to us my butterfly, I will let you say you goodbyes, We will be back later.” With that he was gone again, as fast as he was there. I could still feel his warmth. I had to kill that connection and that bitch.

When I returned Lottie was nowhere to be seen, if I was going to sneak around I would have to do it in a guise. I pulled out an old jumpsuit that would be easy to move in and pulled a wig over my hair. I looked in the mirror just to check, was going to need to change my sent too.

“I just love playing dress up!” Lottie exclaimed.
I jumped a little. If truth be told she scares me still, I am not used to sharing space with a human, and I miss dog a little.
“Yeah well I hope you're up for more than that, I have a feeling things are about to get messy.” I said as I turned around.
“I know that silly, I was making sure you were ok. I also have a brilliant plan! We better get our move on if we are going to make it before sundown.” She said happily as she jumped off the bed and we left the room.

Lottie was not the only one with a plan.

_______________________________________________________________
Determination: It is one of the best assets we can possess, the tool we can use to defeat discouragement. The act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose. A person who is determined has a firmness of purpose and the resolve to achieve a goal. It is a fixed intention or resolution to overcome obstacles. It gives you the drive that is needed to get shit done.

My determination has lead me to this old run down motel. Lottie is sure this is where we are to find the answers.

“Quick Ala, its this way, just down the elevator. This building is several hundred years old, it has been 'empty' so people think for about 50 years. Until the Guardian society decided to take it over and build their library, but that had only been in say, the last 20 years or so.” Lottie paused to take a breath as she pushed the elevator button.

“So here.....” They elevator sounded and they got in ”.......is where we keep all our records and journals so if we ever have a repeat of a supernatural mishap.......”
Lottie paused as she pinned in something on the keyboard and they stepped out into a big expansive library. I looked on in awe just slightly paying attention to what Lottie was saying.. This place was so empty almost eerily  it definitely have some kind of magic in it, I could feel it prickle down my spine.
“...........and that is how the garidens protected themselves from them!” Lottie explained excitedly.
Maybe I should have been listening more carefully to that one, eh, if it was something I REALLY needed to know she will explain it again surely.

Lottie sat me down with a pile of books.
“look for anything to do with vampires, the vampire mistress and the war with demons.” She said after setting about to looking for more books and humming.
I perked a brow at her....Bossy little beggar...I thought to myself. But hey, she is willing to help me slaughter these things that control my life. It had been a wee while maybe an hour or so when Lottie pipped up.

“This is it!” she squealed.
“100 years ago Demons ruled the supernatural plane along side the fae. Everything seemed to be normal enough to the humans. Every now and then a human would turn up souless, or in a coma as they thought, his was due to the demons soul sucking, which obviously is a descendant of yours Ala, I know there is many more types.” Lottie quickly flashed me a smile.
I knew all about these wars anyway....... well I knew how the vampires had come with their fresh armies taking the demons, but with what? Its not like you can just stab us in the heart or shoot us with silver.

I knew as Lottie was blabbering on there had to be more to this story, too bad my family was all dead. Maybe my son knows, although I am positive he will be brain washed into oblivion.

Just then I felt a tingling sensation, it started in my fingers and my toes. Then my ears started ringing and my whole body was taken over I twisted in agony
“LOTTIE!” I screamed.
Her eyes opened wide and she jumped at me, but it was too late.
I landed where ever I was with an oof, and in a protection circle. Fuck it all, I could hear soft murmurings of
“Ala Arcadius Velentai....”
Everything went silent, so creepily silent that I couldn't hear anything. I just lay there staying quiet as possible not moving.

“You didn't harm her did you?” I heard Verne whisper.
“Would you shut up you idiot, I wouldn't harm her when I need her so much. One more word and I will have your throat.” A voice said, with a smooth purr.
I felt a tug on my conscience  I smiled knowing it was Lottie trying to find me, then cringed when I remembered I was being watched.
“Ala Arcadius Velentai, you have been summoned, I demand you to rise.” The woman belted out.
I was planning on just laying here, but my body betrayed me.
“Who the hell gave you my summon name.” I screamed at her, still not looking. Summon names were personal, you shared them with no one but your.....bond....mate.....bloody bastard!

“Ala I am sorry, you.....” there was a sound of a crack and Verne was on the floor looking sorry for himself.
“It's too damn late to apologize.” I whispered, trying not to loose what composure I had left.
Thats when I seen her for the first time in a while, she wore a hood, but her eyes sure did glow under that thing. She had a smirk on her face, but it seemed so friendly. I knew the face for what it was though, this woman was a force not to be reckoned with.

“I think its about time we had a little chat don't you?” NO I thought to myself.
I was never going to be ready for what was to come. So I nodded my submission, there was no point trying to get out of here right now.
“Such a naughty little demon you are running away like that, what did you have holy water for breakfast for the last however long? You know I always get what I want, and what I want is for you to want to rejoin me. In return you will get back something close to your heart.” her lips perked at one side, a wicked smile.

What was it that I was getting back? Verne, my parents, my son? I did not want to say names, or ask her questions, I did not want to owe her anything.
“Marie, I need to think on this, and I need more information.” pushing for time, not an easy task when you don't have much of it.
“It's lady lilith to you child, you have had plenty of time to decide, I am not playing around. I am going to take this place from these humans who put themselves higher then us all. I deserve better, I should be able to walk these lands without having to hide, its not just me, my people, my family deserve better. Ala you have a special part it this plan my dear, you have something no one else does. You do remember you are mine? I also have you in my circle of protection, so the choice is yours. Do you wish to help us?” She walked around my circle watching her people and watching me. Oh how glorious it would be to be able to feed again, my hunger was coming back ten fold since my adrenalin started to rush. Come on Lottie, where are you
“These people belong here too Lady Lilith, I wish them no harm. I have done enough to them and it is not my way no more. I am not your people and I do not wish to aid your fight for power. I just want to live my life in peace, with no more suffering  You have done enough!” I blurted and my breathing deepened.

Lady Marie Lilith snapped her fingers then, I frowned as I noticed a bunch of bodies being shuffled around. Then a teenage boy was in her grasp, he didn't look afraid, but he didn't look alive either. The look on Vernes face told me everything I needed to know, this boy is our son. My heart melted instantly, betraying me to show emotion. Deeeeeeep breaths......

“You see my precious little Ala, there are somethings that I have control over. You can either do what I say, and have all the things you love close again, or.......”She took out a knife from a sheath and grabbed the boy, putting the knife at his throat. “You can watch me draw the blood from your little baby boy and be bound to me, I bet you can not possibly guess what I have laced on this knife.” She purred as her eyes lit up the room.

________________________________________________________
Reason – It is a voice in your head telling you things you should do, the basis or motive for an action, decision, or conviction. An underlying fact ot cause the provides logical sense for a premises  What makes us choose these things? Who would really know, maybe it was god, if there even is one. In that crucial moment when you head starts to spin, and you realise the things you actually hold dear, even if they are the things people would not expect.

“WAIT.....” I squealed.
Panic struck me as I looked on. Stalling stalling..... I didn't want to admit defeat, I though Lottie was going to magic her way here and save me, but it did not seem that was going to happen. Funny how even though you know someone for such a short time but learn to love them. I miss cuddling her as a dog and her perky attitude as a human. She made everything feel so safe, if even for a short while.

“I won't do it, you see.... he is not my child anymore then that man is my bond mate. It was lost so long ago. When they decided to hurt me, when I left I had nothing and I remain with nothing. So you can not use any of these demons lives to hurt me.” I stood my ground hoping that she was just threatening me, I did not want to loose my son under any circumstances even if he was just a pawn in her silly little game.

“Silly little Ala, you do not understand. With drinking the blood from your son, you are bound to me. Not just bonded like you are with Master Hopeless over here.” She said as she gave Verne a little boot. He had now come to, and was looking rather pasety at the sight in front of him. “It will be like being stuck in that permanent circle … just ….. movable. Surely you can take some comfort knowing that you're mine.”

She then took the boys arm and bit into him, inducing an awful pain right into my skull. Soon everything went dark and I was walking all alone down a path I had never seen before. I was in some kind of hall, with many doors.

“Hello?” I called as it echoed all the way down. I assume I was in some kind of dream state, everything had morphed, my clothes, my hair and the place I was in. I padded down the hall in bare feet, I heard the soft calls of a voice but I could not place them. I come to a door after a while and I stood in front of it. It had no sign of whatever was on the door, I placed my hand on there anyway.
“May the light be with me.” I whispered.

As I opened the door my heart got caught in my throat, the scene in front of me was my baby boy as a toddler. I just stood there as Verne was playing with the young red haired boy. Both of them were so full of life, but then I looked closer and it wasn't as nice as it seemed. Maire was standing in the background watching with a placid look on her face. It is nice to know that Verne actually got to know our son. If this is real that is, or is it just my subconscious playing tricks on me. I had enough, I closed that door and carried on down the hall, I could still hear the faint sound of someone calling me, it was still to far away to point to its whereabouts.

I opened several doors along the way, one scene was of Marie teaching my son some kind of histories that I gathered “Good boy, Seth. Now tell me the english names of the curse. Gluttony, greed, wrath, pride.......”
“Are you sure that is correct hmmm? You know what happens when you make Mother upset hmm?” Marie purred to the child.
That made me so angry I slammed that door behind me. After that I ran, trying to find the voice but it seemed so far away. I missed several doors not wishing to know what was behind them.

The next one I come across was one different, I was in some place dark and heard a slight muttering in a sob. I could not make it out so I went in, and as I got half way across the room the door slammed on me. I jumped, it seemed as if the personal sobbing could not here it, or me. As I neared the person I realised it was Verne, he looked so defeated. He was actually praying......
“Please give me back Ala so I have the strength to save my son, so save us all. I really cannot do this alone. I am so sorry I put her through this, but it was not my fault, I did not want it either. I can't stop it PLEASE GOD SAVE ME”

My body just wanted to take the man in my arms. Why did I not see the pain that I left him, he didn't want it after all, but I did not give him a chance.
Feeling defeated I walked back to the hall and the voice was stronger and I finally recognised it.
“Ala? Can you hear me?” Lottie called in her mystical voice. I boosted for it and finally I was at one last door. I opened it carefully not knowing if it was some trick.

When I walked through Lottie had me in her arms. “Oh my gosh, I was so hoping that this would work! I was so worried that I had no way through to you but she must have you in a protection circle right?”

I was taken back by this a little and just looked at her for a moment. “Yes” I finally answered.
“I wasn't sure I was going to get through, though this means you are passed out. The only way I can get in to help you is if you break the circle.” She explain still holding on to me.
“Well . . . . . . it seems to me your in. I also don't know how to break a circle.” I said frowning.
“You silly goose, were you not listening. Its in latin, what people of god call the 7 deadly sins. Remember when I told you them in the library???.
“Ohhhhhh.....” I said as it all come back to me, I explained to her everything that happened. “Maybe you're strong, but you don't stand a chance. Marie has bound me there is no way out, she is strong beyond belief.” I said, sad and broken.

“You don't know much about what I can do yet, just remember I love you no matter what happens.” She said tenderly, she leaned into me for a moment and I felt like I was floating, butterflies danced in my stomach  That moment when her soft lips touched mine, it felt like it was the only safe place in the world. Then BAM everything was black again.

Once I regain consciousness, I felt a heavy sense of magic over me. But I immediately new what I had to say.
I started to whisper fast “Luxuria, Gula, Avaritia, Acedia, Ira, Invidia, Superbia.”
Marie turned to look at me with shock in her face as the circle went down, and there was Lottie in dog form snarling at the vampires  Verne was on the ground with a passed out boy in his arms, he was lucky he got to know him, how much I yearned for that and now I had taken his life.

______________________________________________________________

Void – In a world where we are able to accomplish so much, yet able to do so little. In a place where you can give everything but not do anything at all. Such things can eat into your soul. Watching your cat be hit by a car, dropping the ember of your ciggerette on your new dress, your best friend kissing the guy your secretly in love with, watching your son die in the arms of his father. Such things can burn on so many levels, it just depends on how you see them. There is no way you can stop it from happening, because it is what it is. Maybe if you had that spiffy time machine or you just had the balls to do what was needed in the first place. It is only a matter of time before you find yourself back in the thing I like to call a Void.

So here we are, back into the reality. The room is in silence watching each other and my heart is rapidly beating. I look at Verne and my son with a sadness. Hoping like fudge cakes that he is going to be ok, I contemplate touching Seth, but I know that it wouldn't do him much good. Removing my wig, I spy Lottie lurching for one of the vampires, but it is not Marie. As soon as my eyes meet hers I know she has me.

“Come to me butterfly” I hear in my head, all I can focus on is her eyes. My body is pleased to do what ever she tells me too. No fight, no repulsion but a harmonious lure that has me needing to do anything she tells me to. So I walk to her, not to bother where I am standing, I doubt I would know if something was there or not, the will of my body just taking over.

“Now kill that dog” she is still talking in my head. Lottie has got 3 of the vampires down now, mid pounce for another, I dive and together we roll a couple of times. My grip is on her throat, and as we stop my blood lust takes over. I open my mouth to breath in her life, sucking it in, I feel her change shape into the human woman I have been with the last few days. You would think that would make me feel anything different, but all I felt was a boot in my side and I flew across the room. Odd, no one has had that effect on me before.

I heard Marie shout more demands at me, I rolled over to see Verne pulling Lottie off the ground. She didn't look any worse but when I get told to jump I. . . . . . get hit with a bloody unicorn dart!!!!!! How did I not see that coming? I thump to the ground watching my surroundings.

A dizzy whirl of dancing was going around me, Lottie had some kind of weapon in her hand now, the devil only knows where she was hiding that, maybe she has pockets under her skin. Verne was suddenly on the ground in front of me, he was looking into my eyes, mouthing words I could not hear due to Miss Bloody Lilith trying to demand my body up. Marie was striding her way to Verne when I spot Seth moving from the corner of my eye, he is rolling to his front. Seth's eyes are locked to his father and my heart flutters with joy.

*“Aperi oculos tuos, aperi cor tuum anima tua liberabit vos!” Verne shouts, Marie obviously giving up on demands I finally hear him. My body giving a slight jolt, I pushed myself to my knees making my way to Seth. Fighting the urge to attack Lottie I make my way over to my son. He looks at me like I am a stranger, that breaks my heart more then anything. You would think being reunited with your children would make the world somehow better, maybe it could. If happy ever after did exist…. Lottie trying to fight off the 2 remaining vampires is knocked to the ground. I look over to see Marie holding Verne by the throat with one hand, the other pressed against his chest.

Seth makes a grunt, with it making everything go black. I grab him and cover his body with mine, trying to keep him safe. He struggles under me but his strength is zapped and he is concentrating on....wait.... did he make everything go black? I stroke his hair thoughtfully, before I realise what I am doing.

There is a sound of someone smashing to the ground with a slight gurgle. “Turn it off” I whisper to Seth, but he refuses. I am left with no choice and slap the poor boy which makes him lose concentration for a few moments. When I look around Verne is back on the ground moving slowly to pull himself up, Lottie is being held by the two Vampires.

I motion to Verne to sit with Seth and he nods and keeps chanting the words to me. It seems to be giving me strength. Marie with her vampire speed is in my face again, she grabs my hair and yanks it.
“Look you little bitch, it is about time you start listening to me or this is going to get leathal.” Her tone no longer playing nice. I looked at her in the eyes, the orders she is giving me slowly taking over again.

Running over to Lottie I stop in front of her, the vampires have her held pretty tight. I place my hand on her face and smile.
“You are such a pretty little thing.” This is not me, it is Marie controlling me. I am about to take her when Verne has Marie down. Screaming at me take control, I pivot and smackdown n the vampire on Lottie's left. Leaving her free to take down the other, she straddles the Vampire pulling a ring from her finger, twisting some kind of dial. She opens the vampires mouth with one hand and puts the ring in his mouth. Closing it quickly holding it there. Nothing happens for a moment before an burst of light radiates from the vampire leaving her to disintegrate into dust. Leaving Lottie on the ground with a humph.

What the....... I lost focus at watching Lottie, what was that? Frowning I looked at her, then the other Vampire has me down. I felt her fangs dig into my skin and the sensation of her taking my blood was burning. Poor Seth, no wonder he was out to it. My mind was starting to numb and my vision was going blurry when the vampire started to scream removing herself from me. I scuttled back a little watching her, trying to concentrate and suddenly she was in flames. I looked around in confusion. That didn't make sense, Marie drank from Seth and she didn't burst into flames.

The room went back to darkness and Verne was chanting again. I got so angry and let out a scream. Next thing I know there is flames throwing itself all over the room, Seth was on the floor, as was Verne, but it seemed to direct itself in Maries direction. The woman lay on the ground writhing in pain on the floor. Her body convulsed and the woman was dead, and the light from the fire dimmed into darkness once again.

“Seth, you can turn that off now.” Verne said calmly. The light drifted back slowly.
“Lottie, what was in that ring?” I asked curious. She was panting herself.
“Keratin, hair, nails that kind of thing. It explodes in contact with air and produces light.
Interesting....... so many things I need to learn.

Lottie grabbed onto my hand reassuringly, we sat there in silence taking everything in. Verne got up walking towards us with Seth in tow, when Marie's body convulsed and a spirit raising itself from her body. An angelic looking soul with tasselled blonde hair smiled at me one second, then he was sucked into Vernes body the next. The look of horror on Seth's face, the poor child.
Lottie and I stood in unison and ran for him. The thing that had possessed Verne just laughed. Once we had him behind us I just watched Verne, looking for clues that he may feel the bond.

~Orthon's Point of view.
“What you think about this one Lottie? Do you have answers for this?” I could hear Ala whisper. Wow, I really made something beautiful here!
“Sorry Doll, I am out. I have one more grenade thing.” The guardian shruged as the demon boy shivered. The fight for Vernes body was harder than anything, he had determination. I didn't want to have to take this one, but if I didn't then I was done, and there is still work to do. I looked up and smiled at Ala, pretty thing she is, with blood kissed hair and eyes that could eat your soul.

“Dear Ala, I was so close to having you. All to myself, it looks like you have more faith in yourself then I desired.” I purred. Ala shivered, a little, you could see the rage building up in her.
“What do you want from me!” she yelled. I tilted my head and looked at her.
“tsk tsk, you don't know? Verne my dear is the son of Orthon, master of possession. It was a hard job getting into young Maries body but someone had to do it. The love she shared for me let her in far too close. We had an affair, my wife never knew except one day she caught us. Killing the demon body I had taken for many years. Marie stayed there and cried a while, before I decided to take her body. I just needed you my sweetling, to make me some more little Demon children, for one day we can take over the world. Vampires are easier to control then most supernatural. Now wont you be a dear and come to me, we have wasted so much time already. Look how strong our dear little Seth is, at this young age he can black out the room, it will not be long before he can manipulate the shadows.” I started to creep closer, the excitement building. I watched as the guardian pulled a Phosphorous Grenade from her bag and pulling the pin. I kept walking closer the silly little bitch doesn't even know, a burst of glitter blew up in my face, I couldn't help but laugh.
~~

Lottie had Seth in her arms comforting him, he was hugging onto her tight. I had more then him to save though, the whole world in jeopardy if I didn't do something.

Fire..... I screamed full force at him, like I had done earlier. This time a strong fire ball flung, but he met it with ice from a flick of a finger. It sizzled with a hiss. I looked to Lottie for a sign anything that had reassurance that everything was going to be alright, but there was nothing but the sign of Orthon tapping his feet with his arms crossed.

Suddenly I knew what I had to do, it had been in my control the whole time, only I never seemed to have control over it at all.
I pulled the two people I held so dear close, gave them a little squeeze. I kissed Seth on the head “I love you, always and forever.” I whispered. Then I lay my hand on the side of Lottie's face and turned it to mine. “Look after him like you did for me, okay?” I asked her. Her eyes looked at me questioningly. “Promise!” I squeaked out louder. Lottie was starting to look tired already and now flustered. “Okay I promise, but we will get out of here somehow!” I smiled and closed my eyes pressing my lips against hers. Know that it was real this time and right now it meant everything. I stopped myself, and gave them both one final kiss on the cheek. At Least I know now, how to find love. I walked to Orthon with a smile, I don't think Verne ever truly new the capacity of my powers.

“Glad you chose me my dear.” He whispered in my ear running his hand down my arm and the other pulling my back close. I could feel how much he wanted it, so I kissed his neck, my need taking over that started with Lottie. He let me push him to the ground and I straddled him holding his face, kissing his jaw. Heat raged over my body in ecstasy  I kissed him a few times playfully until he left himself open for attack. I had the power, his strength was not at all physical and the proximity restricted his magical abilities. So I sucked every ounce of life and soul from him bounding him to my body. Verne fell to the floor and my ears started to ring, my body started to float. This is it, I love you my darlings. Never forget me. Until I felt my body explode.

Epilogue
As Lottie and Seth stood there, not believing what they just saw. It was clear to them both what they just saw. The death of Ala and Verne had defined their lives and now neither of them had much to go by. It was clear to her that Orthon didn't take over his body, but nothing else was. They walked out in the sunlight holding hands with tears in their eyes not knowing what the future was going to bring them. So Lottie promised to protect and care for Seth as long as he stayed true to his heart.

Saturday 22 September 2012

This Little Light of mine.

So here it begins, in the town of Charlton.
Aiden and Elyssa, two very red headed twins.

We had lived with Granny Lara, who took us in after the death of our parents.  Mother was a sweet and kind soul. We always remembered dancing around the living room with her. Baking cookies and stuff. Daddy we always did outside things with, like fishing and playing ball.

One night, after we had been out for dinner this man tried to mug dad. Dad just looked at him like he was an idiot and punched him right in the nose. It was times like these when I thought my father, who hated guns and had never been to any wars, was the bravest man who ever lived. That is my most precious memory I hold onto.

Granny did try her hardest, even though she wasn't a very good cook.

How many words can explain a bond between two siblings? Even since We were toddlers we had an amazing connection. We did a lot together, chasing each other around the house playing tag, chasing the neighborhood cat to put a bell on her neck. Heck we even dug in the sand looking for crabs once. Until it bit into Elyssa's finger, and that was the end of that one.

One gloomy and rain-ridden day, the kids decided they were going to share a room.  We decided to join our bunks together, and got rid of the bottom bunks so they could make a fort.

Fort Ashby they named it.

Their favourite Pac-man lamp, books, Miss tripper (Elyssa's toy bunny), and Mr Noodle (Aidens bear), a pile of books (for story telling), and Mothers favorite house plant, all got places in the fort. Of course, the dress-up chest also.

Our favorite dress-up game was "Battle of the ROAAAAAR-asours."  We would stomp around crushing buildings, in search of the famous medicine that would turn us back into people.
Sometimes we would have a rolly-polly fight and roll down hills and stuff.  Elyssa always did beat me.  Sometimes I would storm off in a huff; her success was really annoying.

Elyssa really loved to pretend she was a message bearer thing. She would make me sit and listen to her babbling for hours. By watching her, I began to think there was some skill involved in being a girl.
Maybe she will be the President one day, with all her bossiness and controlling. All while being filled with a sugary, marshmallow center. Sometimes I wish I had her confidence.

I used to be scared of the dark once; now, I never bothered: I knew that I had Elyssa at my side.  Together we could accomplish anything, defeat evil and triumph over home work.
It gave me a sense of pride to know that after losing so much, we were still able to hold onto little things.  Our innocence, independence, and creativity still gave most people a run for their money.  It gave our dreams more of a special touch.

But like everything, when you are having a good time and everything is perfect, something has to go wrong.

It was a Saturday morning. Not long after breakfast. We were playing hide and seek, Elyssa was counting upstairs.
While I was running outside, I slipped and bumped my head on the side of the pool.
It took a while before Elyssa found me. But it was too late.
The poor girl has to live with that vision for the rest of her life.

The day of my funeral Elyssa was calm and collected. After the men had come and put my head stone in the hill in the front yard where we used to play tag, she planted some dandelions and agapanthus or something.
She had put up with all these people coming to pay their respects, spoke to them politely but was on the verge of breaking. Then, once everyone was gone and the sun had started to set, Elyssa broke down.
The tears began to fall and they wouldn't stop.

Granny had watched from the window. Once she had cleared everything she needed to take care of, she set out to comfort her grandbaby. She wanted to comfort her. Give her solace, and tell her everything is going to be ok.
But Elyssa wouldn't hear of it.
"JUST LEAVE ME ALONE GRANNY, EVERYONE IS DEAD AND SOON YOU WILL BE TOO," yelled Elyssa.
Granny stood there for a bit just staring at Elyssa, not sure what to say and not wanting to making anything worse.
"It's going to get better sweetheart, and I will try my best not to leave you anytime soon." Granny soothed as she finally got to hold her grandchild in her arms, in attempts to hide her from all things miserable.

After Granny finally got Elyssa to sleep, she broke down too. Blaming herself for this tragic incident, causing Elyssa more pain then she deserved. Knowing fair well that if she had that damn pool fenced, this would not have happened. She decided she was going to have it emptied and filled with concrete tomorrow. Still, this would not take away the pain, the aching and the hurt. Three beautiful souls taken away far too early and watching everyone else suffer.
But she will be here for her grandchild, even if it kills her.

_______________________________________________________________________________

I felt I had awoken from a dream, like I was still here. But I felt a sense of floating. I looked down at my body and looked away into the distance, frozen in shock. “Am I dead?” I thought to myself. Then I looked to the House, unsure of what to do next. I felt the need to be close to my family, to my best friend. But what if I scared them or they didn't want to see me this way. This was just far too much for one day. WHY is this happening to me, what did I do to deserve this?

I wandered around for a bit, staring at the place where I took my last breath. But I knew this wasn't doing any good. So I trudged up to the cozy bed room. It was so nice just being in the comfort of my own room and listening to the sound of Elyssa breathing.

Climbing up to the bunk I lay down, watching my sister for a few hours and fell asleep. I woke up before I had to encounter her awake.

“Of course I can hear you, I...I...I...I just didn't know what to do, or if you wanted to hurt me.”
Elyssa finally got up to look at me.
“What does it feel like? You know, being a ghost.”

“Like being a big hunk of wibbly jelly”
Elyssa giggled, then stood staring at me. Then her lips started to tremble and she burst into tears, throwing her face into her hands.
I jumped up to give her a hug, but was too scared I wouldn't be able too. So there we sat on the floor sobbing like two big babies.

It had been a few weeks since Elyssa and I had found each other again. It had been the most blissful few weeks in a while. But little did we know that trouble was coming. Granny walked past the room one day. She had been noticing Elyssa had been doing some
strange things of late. Talking to herself, playing tea parties without her soft toys. What was the last straw was when she saw Elyssa hug thin air. Granny could not see me; sometimes I wished she could, though. Granny decided enough was enough.

A couple of days later Elyssa was walking out to check the mail when she spotted Granny talk to a dark haired man. Granny spotted her just as she went to run inside.
“Elyssa, sweet heart, this is Mr Jude Campbell. He is a very nice man and has come to meet you.” Granny Explained.
“Ummm why? I thought I was not meant to talk to strangers?” Elyssa snapped.
“Yes, very true darling. But that's not including people Granny has introduced to you. He is going to be helping us through some things.” Granny soothed.
“I've been trying real hard to do my homework and help around the house,” whined Elyssa.

I'd never seen the problem with Elyssa talking to me. She was happy and Granny was taking it all away, for what?

“Hello Elyssa. You may call me Jude,” the dark haired man named Jude interrupted.

“Um, Hi,” Elyssa replied shyly.

“So what do you think? You can come and hang out with me for a couple of hours a week. We can play games and talk about things?” Jude encouraged.

“You do know I have friends,” Elyssa spat.

“Yes, well this will be a little bit different then that. I am like a fun kind of doctor who is here to help people when they have some tough times in their lives.”

Elyssa pondered that for a minute, and then agreed to meet with the man for Granny's sake.

I had been getting bored just floating around, pretending I didn't exist. So when Elyssa and I had time, she would teach me the stuff
from school, and bring extra homework home for me.

“So I think Granny thinks I am sick or something.”

“Why would she think that?” I replied, puzzling over some answers.

“Well, she brought over a doctor man, and I have to go have visits with him. I just don't understand why I have to do this,” Elyssa said as she frowned.

I sat there thinking how odd this was. Then it hit me. She can't see me, and has been watching us play. Well Elyssa playing by herself. I guess that would look crazy.

“Maybe . . . . . we should be more careful where we hang out from now on.” I suggested, hoping I wouldn't offend her.

“We could . . . . . but we shouldn't have to. Sometimes I am just so fed up with this, wish I was dead too.”

I glared at Elyssa for a moment, stunned that she said such things. “Never think that way. Never!”

The dreaded day of the “meeting” come along fast enough. Certainly a dish best served cold.  Elyssa and Jude talked about a lot of things. Growing up, life with Granny, how school was. Then he got to the tough questions, asking about me. Questions about swimming; he didn't make it easy for the poor girl.

“So your Granny is also worried about you talking to yourself.” Jude explained.

“I don't talk to myself, I just play games. It's kind of hard when you don't actually have anyone else. Especially after having no one for so long,” she explained.

They contemplated over this a while, talking about Granny, and about her friends at school. They come to the conclusion that she would soon be a teenager and hope fully she would progress, and let go of her dearly beloved brother.

“I know its hard to forget Elyssa, but time does dim the pain a little bit,” Jude said with a sorry look on his face.

When Granny and Elyssa got back from the office, Granny had a surprise. They walked down the stairs into the living space that used to be Mum's. When Elyssa walked in, she was shocked. There was a beautiful bed with lovely patterned curtains. Someone had painted a fantasy mural of a rainbow and castles on the wall. Curtains covering a mirror over the duchess. Lastly Draws for her books and our parents' plant.

“Oh thank you so much, Granny!” Elyssa exclaimed, as she pulled Granny into a huge hug.

“You could never be more welcome sweet heart. I love you.”

“I love you too,” Elyssa croaked.

Once Granny had left, we FINALLY had some time to catch up. Elyssa was looking around the room admiring the veiw.

“Wow Aiden. I am actually shocked she did this for me. I kind of love the mural.”

“Eh, it is sooooooo girly.”

Elyssa giggled “Yeah, it so is, it's not going to be the same as our room though.”

“Nope it is not,” I said with a sad look on his face.

Elyssa pounced on the bed in front of me. Just staring for a few moments.

“You know, things will never change. You're going to be here with me forever and everything will be ok, right?” She questioned.

“I wish that I could say yes, but I haven't seen Mum or Dad yet. So there must be a place where we all end up.” Meanwhile I was pleading for it to be right.

“I think . . . . . we could come up with a way to keep you here always.”

Then we spent the rest of the evening scheming and planning for the next few months.

The time had rolled around to Elyssa's birthday. Granny just had a small birthday for her, wanting to make it personal for them.  She came up with this great idea to get her a cat, which she adopted; they named her Nova. I overheard Granny talking to the councilor on the phone. They thought that getting her a companion would stop her thinking she could see me. It seemed to have worked. But then I felt put out of place. What if she didn't love me anymore? What if she just gave up on me? What if she rejected our plan?

_____________________________________________________________________

“You know Aiden, I am glad you never had to grow up. I learnt some pretty yuck stuff about teenagers the other day.
And look at these” Elyssa points out her boobs “Ugh, so gross and weird.”
“Yes, well thanks for the chat. I appreciate it a whole bunch.” I said sarcastically, as I was flipping through a book.
After Elyssa got over gawking at herself, she came and sat on the bed with me.
“So, my darling brother. What have you found?” Elyssa questioned.
“Hmmm nothing so far, where did you get this book anyway?”
“School library,” Elyssa replied with a smirk on her face.
“No wonder there is nothing in here,” I said as I let out a sigh. “Let's head down to the library and see what's there.”
“Sure, I just need to put my make-up on.”
I rolled my eyes as I left the room.

“If you hear someone walking over this way, make sure you put the book on the table. All I need is random people thinking I am crazy.” Elyssa blubbered.

“Mmmmhmmmm, so what we need to look for is some kind of magic book,” I explained.
After hours of scouring the internet, I did find something. It was not really clear but it said something about a book of laguini?

We sat in silence reading for a bit until . . . . .

“Hey, listen to this journal. A potion of resurrection has been filed, not easily acquired. It is hidden in the bounds of The book of Lockheart. Dated 1955.” Odd name for a book I thought as I read.

Elyssa smacked her book shut to look for another journal of the same era. After reading through a few books and spending 4 hours in the library, she announced “Screw this.! We need to look more on the internet I think.”

“Great plan, Stan.” I said as I jumped off the seat. Elyssa just glared at me as we set off for home.

“Oh gosh Lissa, did you rip that out of a library book?” I asked.
Elyssa looked at me and smiled.
“Sure did kiddo, maybe I should become a secret agent or something.”
“a) I think you would make a pretty good secret agent and b) I am not a kid, we are the same age – or do you forget we are twins?”
“Yeah but you're dead . . . . .” she said before the silence hit. “Don't worry, I will fix this I promise.”
I forced a smile as Elyssa started mixing chemicals. After a while I sat on the chair with Nova and fell asleep.
When I woke, Elyssa was shaking me.
“Aiden, honey wake up. I want you to test this.” Elyssa said and she passed me the flask of odd looking liquid.
I sculled the whole thing back, waited a couple of minutes and shrugged.
“You should probably get to bed, we can practice more tomorrow.” I suggested.
“You're right. Night night poppet,” and she kissed me on the head as she left the room.

The next morning Granny and Elyssa had breakfast together.

“How come you never got another boyfriend after you and grandad split up Granny?” Elyssa questioned.
Granny choked on her mouthful of food “I wished to be loved by another, but I desire no man's pity. And then there was everything that happened with our family. I have had no time for men.”
“I hope you find a man one day Granny, you deserve to be happy.”
“I would be happy, if your grades had stopped slipping.” Granny replied giving Elyssa the look.
“I am sorry Granny. But do you know how hard it is to deal with all this and the counselor who seems to think I am crazy?” Elyssa let out with a fluster.
“We don't think you're crazy honey, we just think you need help to get past the loss of everyone.”
“I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF THIS CRAP. I WILL MAKE YOU ALL SEE!” shouted Elyssa as she stormed out the door.
She grabbed her bag and stormed out of the house.
Granny just sat there, thinking all she needed was space.

It had been a day since we last saw Elyssa. Granny was getting worried, so worried that she had even called the police.
Gran was not coping with Elyssa running away. She was worried that she had got herself hurt or something. Granny spent the morning ringing all Elyssa's friends. The only one who had heard from her was Georgie. Her family owned the
science facility. But she had nothing much to say on the subject.
When the police officer finally arrived Granny was going hysterical. Sobbing, yelling and crying in no particular order. He was a really nice, patient soul and
proceeded to comfort Granny, even though he was feeling rather uncomfortable.
“Lots of teenagers do this Miss Croft.” he assured her. “I am sure she will be home within the next few days, once she has gotten over her anger. But just in case, we will have all the car patrols looking out for her.”
Granny just nodded and wandered back inside.

“Enough is enough,” I thought to myself, as I plodded down to Elyssa's living area. I stopped at the bottom of the stairs
noticing the big pile of books and folders of information everywhere. She must have done this after we left the library.
I flicked through a few pages of the files to see if she had printed anything of importance. But there was nothing to clue me in as to where she went.
Then I started going through all the history of websites on the computer.
Nova padded over and started cleaning herself among the papers. I looked over at her and sighed.
“You be careful over there, Lissa won't be impressed if you ruin her papers. Actually it probably serves her right for leaving them there.”
Then something caught my attention, I started reading more
“Oh no Elyssa, Please NO!” I begged, to no one in particular.

The Book of Lockheart.

The book of Lockheart is gifted to a descendant of an Escher god, who therefore is turned to a full vampire as an adolescent.
Escher people come from an island that once was positioned to the southwest of Laut Ocean. Somehow vanishing within a ball of light, it was said that the land itself was taken for the gods. No one really found out the answer to this.

It was said that a virgin was sacrificed to turn the vampire. The first time this was recorded was dated back 2000 years ago.
The Vampire Belzure had chosen the most important virgin sacrifice, the first born daughter of King Mahon. Belzure drank the blood of the virgin, in a ceremony on the beach. The adolescent vampire took the girl as his bride and drank every drop of
blood the girl had, leaving her body lifeless. During the ceremony the vampire's watcher (who remains with him all his life) chants the words of a sacred incantation, which binds their souls and blood together. When the binding is complete, the vampire and his
watcher say a prayer, as the vampire descends into the water, laying the sacrifice on a raft of flower,.sending her into the ocean and giving her back to the gods. The result was Belzure becoming a full-blooded vampire and crowning him the Emperor of Escher.
Afterward the human king and his family were killed, and his slaves were taken for food.

The stories over the years are similar, but the setting is either on the beach or on sacred ground, gifting the sacrifice to either water or fire gods.
The book itself, believed to be full of potions and spells, was originally crafted by a high powered mage.

Please read comments for more information.

Meanwhile, Poor Elyssa was locked in a cell, wondering where the hell she was. Then thinking yep this is what hell feels like.

After reading all that information and the comments, there was a link that leading to a page which showed a picture of a house, which I knew fairly well since becoming a ghost. I imagined the vampires had a spell on it so normal people can't see in.
I left that night, ended up getting lost in the forest. Then I started panicking. What if I was too late? By the time morning came round, I was feeling rather down, slowly making my way down the street, not really sure where I was going.
Then I found it. . . . . the house in the photograph.

After I walked through the front door, I expected to see people, well not people exactly – vampires.  I was worried that after I stepped over that threshold, those blood suckers would be on me. Then I remembered that I had no blood, just my soul. They probably had some kind of motion detectors for security purposes. Once I got to the basement,
I still heard nothing. Looking around, I spotted a vampire coffin and shivered. As I was just about to turn around, I spotted a curtain and behind it was a door.

As I passed through the door, I saw cells they looked horrible and filthy. I turned to the voices I was hearing. WHAM I stood still for a moment, shocked at the scene in front of my eyes.

“HEY, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOUR DOING WITH MY SISTER!” I screamed

“I am sorry.” The man whispered to my sister.

Then BOOM !!!!

________________________________________________________________________

The floor started vibrating, as I looked up, to see if I knew where the explosion came from. Not seeing anything I eyed the vampires. The younger one, holding onto Elyssa, had dropped to the floor covering my sister as to protect her. Then I noticed the two big vampires stalking my way. I panicked and squeezed my eyes shut. Taking a deep breath, I opened my eyes slowly and as I opened them, I seem to have teleported over to the vampire and my sister.
Woah I thought.

I started to feel tingly as an odd looking Gnome growled “keep as still as you can!”
Turning back to look at the other vampires to see if they had noticed my dissapearing act. I watched as a meteor exploded right through the roof of the basement, devouring everything in its path including the vampires. None of the debris was hitting us, so I just assumed that Mr. Gnome had used his magic to save us.

After everything had time to settle and the meteors had finished, I started looking for ways to get everyone out. First I tried teleporting out with Elyssa, but that did not seem to work with solid objects.

“I can get us out, but I expended so much energy protecting us all that I need to rest for a bit,” groused the Gnome

I looked at Elyssa who was passed out. I assumed they had drugged her with something. She looked so peaceful. Who knows what would have happened if I had not turned up? I let out a sigh and looked at this vampire. More like glared at him.

“So what is the deal you asshole? I want to know everything!”

“How much is everything?”

“Like from what was written on the website of the history of Escher.”

The vampire looked to the ground and let out a sigh then stared into my eyes. But it felt more like he was sucking my soul.

“How anyone put that stuff on there without the vampires finding out is beyond me. But I took an oath and I can not speak of it.”

“Just tell me!” My patience was wearing thin.

Never take an oath unless you're sure you would rather die than break it

“Look buddy, if you don't give me some information soon I will light you on fire like your friends and you can all be dead together.”

“Okay . . . . . My name is Ashan, I am the only son of Master Sebastion and Lady Serenity. So of course, being in the bloodline of Balzure, I was chosen to take the place of Emperor and Balzure was to become my Watcher to teach me all the things I needed to know, and still have control over me. He was a 2000 year old Vampire after, all and his powers were coming to a stand. There was word of an ambush. Other vampires did not think that an emperor from another place should be able to take over the whole world. They wanted a bit of the punch too. So the day I was born, I was chosen.

I was brought up being taught to fight, lead and rule. But I did not want that life, I wanted to be free and live my own life. I did not want some poor innocent
soul to be forced into marrying me, nor did I want to drink her blood. Living with someone like that, making children with them, when you don't love them? I just can not understand it.”

Aiden butts in “Don't you have to drink all their blood though?”

“No, those were the old times. These days the women are too precious. It takes her to turn you into a fully fledged vampire. Anyway, the ceremony is started with a chanting spell which joins your souls together, then the vampire bites into the virgin sacrifice; she has to be pure and of pure blood. Both the vampire and the virgin are always teenagers also, about 15 years old.”

Hmmmmm interesting I thought.

“He drinks enough of her blood to make her unconscious. That joins them and announces them.... Married I suppose you would call it. Then the ceremony is completed by taking her virginity, that in it self is the sacrifice. She needs to be the one to birth the vampire's children and no one else.”

“So how come you're using Elyssa then?” Aiden asks

“You both are the descendants of King Mahon.”

“But didn't his whole family get killed?” I wondered.

“Yes, all but a secret son of his brother's that no one knew about, until it was too late and the boy's mother had taken off with him. Over the years, the bloodlines have been followed to keep up with them. It comes from your father's side of the family.”

“Well thats bloody weird. How did you know it was her looking for the book then?”

“Watcher was at the school library looking for any signs of your family, as we knew that you two would be teenagers, but didn't exactly know where you lived. Anyway he saw what Elyssa was searching for and planted a false website to draw her here.”

“That is some screwed up shit!” we sat in silence for a bit. I sat staring at the book; it looked as it if had cast a protective shell over itself. This supernatural stuff was getting seriously crazy. It was bad enough I was a ghost, but vampires, magic books and Gnomes?

“So is there really a potion in that book to bring me back to life?” I asked the vampire.

“I have no idea, I was never allowed to go near it. It is the first time I have been in here.”

It was then Elyssa started to moan and open her eyes. I jumped at the noise and grabbed her hand.
“It's ok Liss, I am here.”
“Ughhhhhhh. What the hell happened?” she asked groggily.

“Shhhh, don't worry about it too much just now.”

That is when the Gnome piped in “Right! Is everyone set?”

“The book,” Elyssa slurred.

Ashan went and picked up the book before scooping up my sister in his arms.

“Ready” I chimed in, just in case it was not clear.

“Right,” said the gruff Gnome, “where are you guys heading too?”

“Ummmm home?”

“You really think that is a great idea? You know the vampires are going to be after to you!”

“Well how on earth are we meant to explain this to Granny?”

“I can use my vampiric magic to hypnotise her into leaving. But it will work better if I had some human blood.”

“Don't you think you're touching my sister buddy!”

“Shut up Aiden!” Elyssa croacked as she tried to yell at me. “This is to save all our lives, including Granny's, right? I'll do it.”

“Look, I am really glad you love each other so much, but we really need to get the show on the road.” said the Gruff Gnome.

I closed my eyes and turned away as the vampire bit into Elyssa.

I could not watch.

6 Months Later. . . .

I never found out why the gnome was around to protect us. After he got us to the front lawn, he just blurted out
“You've got to be quick on your feet in this world if you want to survive. Though once you know the rules, it’s not too hard to play the game”.
Then he vanished. Once we had made it inside, there was no sign of an intrusion. So no one had found out about our escape, just yet.  After Ashan did his vampire thing with granny and we were all out safe. We decided that nothing was to be removed from the house, we were to have no trace of our return. Elyssa then set fire to our home, she ran to the car and did not look back. The only person who did was Ashan; those vampires like to see everything done perfectly.

We had been moving around for a while, never really wanting to settle. Ashan was true to his word and used his vampire magic to force Granny to come. I didn't really like the idea of forcing her to do things. But if Elyssa could sacrifice her blood, then I could let go of that, and knowing that Granny was safe was more then anything. We finally decided to settle in a little island community. Elyssa cut and coloured her hair black, in hopes that it would hide her appearance. One day she came home letting us know that she had got a job at the science facility. We had a big laugh about her sexy uniform. I think this was just so she had access to chemicals and so forth. She was still hell bent on bringing me back to my human form.

Ashan just tried to stay out of sight of people. Which is easy enough when you can't go out during the day. He had stuck to his word, but stayed around to protect us. He really didn't have anywhere else to go either. So we all agreed that he could stay. Granny got into gardening, it started with a basic little garden, but everyone loved her produce so she extended her garden and sold her produce at the farmers' market. She enjoyed it alto. Elyssa had started explaining things to Granny about me and the vampires thing. She could accept the vampires, since she could see him. But she had let go of me a long time ago, and because I was not visible she would not believe. I think that's what hurt the most. It is what I wanted most, for Granny to believe.

Elyssa had tried the spell/potion in the spell book so many times. She didn’t know what was going on, and spent a lot of the time frustrated. I felt for her, I really did.

I started playing around with a chemical set that we had bought to replace the one we had lost in the fire. I found a couple of spells/potions in that book, none of them really panned out though.

One night, the house was so quiet, I decided to go for a walk. Down on the beach I came across something so horrid, I swear, it ripped my heart out in a million pieces.
My sister was all over this vampire, and I think, they really had fallen in love for real.

It was then I came up with a plan. To make things right and stop all this silly nonsense. I decided to put plan B into motion immediately.
I spent the next few days looking for potions in the magic book, while Elyssa spent less time at work and more time with Ashen. I knew that he would rather not be a vampire, it upped his chances of having vampire babies and more chance of hurting his mate.

Two weeks later, I sat watching Granny and Elyssa gardening. They were happy and glowing in the sun.
I sat down with Liss when she took a break. and we laughed and joked about stuff. Little did she know about this plan that was about to take effect.

After Ashan had woken up for the evening, I sat him down and explained to him what my plan was and he accepted. I had made him a potion to take away the vampirism and I was going to take a life tonic. I had written a note for Liss explaining everything.

That was when we both took our potions and I smiled at Ashan, knowing that my sister was always going to be safe in his arms. My eyes started getting teary and I knew it was time.
Together we drank from our vials together, I started to see Ash’s eyes start to flicker before I was suddenly surrounded by a whirlwind of colour.

“Hey baby, we have been waiting for a while.”
I turned around to see my parents and felt the water works ready to flow. I ran up to them and gave them a huge hug.
“She will be fine Aiden, she has grown to be a strong woman, stronger then you will ever know., Mum explained.
I smiled at them and my non-existent heart felt tight. “I know.” I croaked.

Suddenly I was not afraid, not of what would happen

* * * Elyssa's point of view.* * *

As I walked into the room, I saw two things happening: one, my brother’s ghost vanishing. Two, my boyfriend passing out on the floor.  Everything after that happened in slow motion.

I fell to Ashan crying, not knowing what was going on. I was laying on his chest, screaming some absurdities. Then I finally let the fight go and just lay there.
That was when I felt him breathe.
“Ash.” I whispered.
“It's ok Liss, I am ok.” Ash managed to get out. He opened his eyes and they were no longer glowing, they were regular beautiful green eyes.
“That little shit figured out a cure, didn't he.”
“Where is Aiden?” asked Ash.
“I am not entirely sure.” I said, just as I spotted an envelop with my name on it, just laying on the floor.

As I opened the letter I started to sob.

To Lissa,
It has been a tough road huh? I am sorry I didn't say good bye in person, but I knew you would have talked me out of it. I made a potion to take me to the after life, if there is even one. I couldn't stay here and be invisible anymore, and as much as you say I wasn’t, it was a lie. Even if we found a potion to bring me back to life, what would Granny say? She couldn't even accept that I was a ghost. I would be still a child with an adult brain, and you would still be with Ash. I knew after the day that I saw you two kiss that you were going to get through this. You and Granny are both strong and amazing women. I know you can get through this Liss, and now you and Ash can be two normal people who fall in love and get married. It is a shame I will never get to see your kids, but I am sure you will tell them all about me. Promise me you'll always remember: you're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.
Love You Always.
Aiden

That selfish little bastard. That letter made me so angry. But I was still alive, and I was about to live my life, as well as I could.

Some time later.....

Ash and I did end up getting married, on the beach where we shared our first kiss. That one was a bit unexpected. Who falls in love with someone who kidnaps you, right? To this day we have never had to worry about any vampires. I just assumed that Ashan’s parents think we all died in the meteor shower. I am yet to see the Gnome pop up again; I guess that was a one time opportunity.

Granny lived to see the birth of her grandchildren before she passed. She had a great life, she even found herself a lovely boyfriend. It still makes me laugh to this day, Granny with a boyfriend! Hehe! They passed soon after each other, I guess we could call them soul mates.

Sometimes I still feel a little angry towards Aiden for what he did to me. But in the end, I should never let those things cloud the happy memories we had. It was good while it lasted, and that is how I found my resolve.
